How it all began…

On the fields in front of our house, there were always some homeless cows and bulls. They love to rest under the trees and play in the mud.

At one point, a good friend offered to donate some fodder, so we started feeding them twice daily. Very soon the word spread and all the bulls of the area started to come. Many of them didn’t leave anymore at all. Especially the younger ones just stayed near our gate, always waiting for food and affection. So we ended up renting a piece of land for them to stay on because nearby farmers kept chasing them away. We made a fence with some wires and a bamboo hut for them to sleep in during the cold winter nights.

The kids of the neighbouring area used to come to our sanctuary during the day to play with the bulls. So, since many of them didn’t go to school, we started teaching them for 2-3 hours a day, basic reading, writing, mathematics, Hindi, English, music, drama and Sanskrit. Most of the time, they have lunch with us as well.
